A greener campus

We follow and promote the principles of one planet living;
  • minimising our use of non-renewable and scarce natural resources,
  • planning, investing and involving our staff, students and communities in sustainable practices, and
  • providing an education in sustainability relevant to a world threatened by climate change.

Back to the Floor

9 July 2018

FX Plus Head of Facilities Operations, Natalie Brown, is going 'back to the floor' to see what's working and to support one of her teams – the campus cleaners.

Natalie has planned to work three shifts as a cleaner at Penryn Campus, one day, one night and one weekend.

She said: "Unless you come in and physically do what the guys are doing you don't know whether or not systems are working well. This is really important to understand our services and what we offer the universities."

The cleaning team, managed by Zoe Layland, numbers more than 50, including casual employees. As well as day to day cleaning of all campus buildings they also work during and after large events, including graduations and freshers' parties.

Natalie started her shifts today (Monday July 9) and was given a thorough induction by Cleaning Supervisor Vickie Westlake – including how to deal with needles (for instance, discarded diabetics' needles).
