 Black general waste bin label Place in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins. Aerosols must be clean before disposal.  Landfill

Aluminium foil and containers

 Red cans and plastics bin label Place in the internal or external, red labelled general waste bins.  Aluminium foil and containers must be clean before disposal.  Recycled

 Batteries

Place in the battery recycling bins located around the main campus. Battery recycling point locations;
• Cash machine lobby next to post room
• Peter Lanyon staff room
• SoFT reception
• Ground floor SoFT
• AMATA corridor behind reception
• Design Centre inside main entrance
Recycled

Blue roll

Place in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins. Where possible use hand driers instead of blue roll as this is more environmentally friendly. Landfill

Bras

Place in the bra recycling bank The bra bank is located in the Peter Lanyon staff room. Re-used:
bras are distributed to women who cannot afford them in countries where production is too expensive.

Bubble wrap

Place in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins.   Landfill

Bulbs (lightbulbs)

Staff can log a collection request on the Estates Helpdesk;
estateshelpdesk.fxplus.ac.uk
Spent fluorescent tubes and lamps are collected by the maintenance team. Recycled: components mercury, glass and metal are separated for recycling.

  Place in the internal or external, red labelled cans & plastic bottles recycling bins.  Cans must be empty before disposal.  Recycled

Catalogues

  Place in the internal or external, blue labelled paper recycling bins.    Recycled

Car batteries

  Can be disposed of at Falmouth and Penryn Household
Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).
  Recycled

Cardboard

  Place in the internal or external, green labelled cardboard recycling bins.

You can also put small cardboard items in the internal or external, blue labelled paper recycling bins.

Cardboard must be flat-packed before being put in bins. Recycled

Carrier bags

 

Keep your carrier bags to use again. 
Plastic carrier bags can be recycled at the Penryn Asda store.

Most major supermarkets must now charge a minimum of 5p per carrier bag.  Reused / recycled

CDs

  Place in the red British Heart Foundation (BHF) bin.  BHF Collection Bank is located in Glasney Village halls in J Square, behind the Lodge and Koofi café.  Reused

Chemical solvents

  Staff can log a collection request on the Estates Helpdesk;
estateshelpdesk.fxplus.ac.uk
  Safe disposal by contractor.

Cling film

  Place in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins.    Landfill

Clothing

  Clean dry clothing can go in the British Heart Foundation (BHF) bin. BHF Collection Bank is located in Glasney Village halls in J Square, behind the Lodge and Koofi café.  Reused

Computers

  Staff can log a collection request with IT services via the Estates Helpdesk;
estateshelpdesk.fxplus.ac.uk
IT Services collect broken IT items and clear all data, ready for collection by our contractor.  Recycled

Coffee cups (disposable)

  Place in the dedicated cup recycling bins. Place any excess liquid in the liquid section of the bin before disposal. Bins are located in The Lower Stannary and The Stannary Bar. If clean can be recycled if not they will have to go into general waste.

Coffee grounds

  Contact FXU for collection,  www.fxu.org.uk/ The Homegrown Society will use these on the campus allotments. Composted on site

Confidential waste

  Staff can log a request on the Estates Helpdesk for a bag and tag.
Log a separate request on the Estates Helpdesk for collection once full;
estateshelpdesk.fxplus.ac.uk
You’ll need to provide a purchase order when making a request for a bag and tag.
There is no charge for bag collections.
Recycled

Crisp packets

  Place in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins. They’re made of a plastic and metal mixture and therefore cannot be recycled. Landfill

Cutlery (disposable)

Place in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins. They're made of biodegradable plant starch and so will break down quickly in general waste. Landfill (biodegradable)

Residences – students living on Penryn Campus can use the Wasters composting scheme from FXU and FX Plus.

Main Campus – place food waste in the internal, yellow labelled bins.

Yellow bins are located in The Lower Stannary Restaurant and in The Stannary Bar.

Food containers (disposable from The Stannary)

Place in the black labeled bins for general waste

They are made from biodegradable sugar cane fibre (bagasse) and will break down in the general waste

Landfill (biodegradable)

Furniture

Staff can log a caretaking collection request on the Estates Helpdesk;

Please ensure you state whether furniture can be re-allocated across the campus when logging your request, along with the condition of the item. Reused

Food oil must be left to cool and solidify then placed in the internal or external, black labelled general waste bins.   Landfill

Paint

Take any leftover household paint to FXU, www.fxu.org.uk

Solvent based paint, paint thinner or white spirit should be disposed of as hazardous waste.

You will need to harden paint before disposal by
purchasing hardener or adding sawdust, sand or soil, leaving the lid off until
the paint turns solid.
Reused / landfill

Paper

Place in the internal or external, blue labelled paper recycling bins.

 

Recycled

Plastic bottles, cups, cutlery, food containers

Place in the internal or external, red labelled cans & plastic bottles recycling bins. 

Bottles must be empty with lids removed before disposal.

You can recycle all plastic bottles, including drink bottles, milk bottles and shampoo bottles.

Plastic iitems must be clean before disposal.
