Information For Students

Private Sector - Information for Students

Whether it's finding accommodation, having trouble with your landlord, checking a contract, deposit issues, disrepair or council tax, we’re here to offer help or sign post you to the best places to get help.

Cornwall Student Pad

The Accommodation Office hosts an online data base of student accommodation called Cornwall Student Pad.  We work closely with local landlords and agents to offer listings for a wide range of accommodation from shared houses to lodgings. Our 2019 lisitings are now live.

We have also produced a House Hunting Checklist which you may find useful when searching for and viewing properties.

Find a Student Housemate Facebook Group

In addition to our database we also run a facebook group to help Falmouth University and University of Exeter students get in touch with one another who are looking for private rented accommodation. This might be to form a group with other students, where an existing group may need another student to fill up a house or students who have a "spare room" in house they are moving into.

Term Time Drop-In Sessions (Falmouth Campus)

Every Wednesday in term time our Private Sector Liaison Officer Richard Wilkins will be available at the Falmouth campus to offer help and advice to students either looking for accommodation or needing help and guidance with property or landlord issues.

The sessions are from 2:30pm -5pm in room 2 at The Hub. These sessions will run from 10th October to 12th December. Then from 9th January 2019 until 27th March 2019.

If you can't make the drop-in session or you are based at the Penryn Campus you can speak to Richard or a member of the Accommodation Team at Glasney Lodge, Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm.

Accommodation Fairs and House Hunting Sessions

To assist students looking for private sector accommodation we run House Hunting Sessions covering such matters as: when and where to start looking, what to look out for, top tips and how the Accommodation Team can help. The sessions for this year have now all taken place however if you missed them you can view our presentation below.

Accommodation Fairs

We also organise a number of Accommodation Fairs to introduce new students to accommodation available in the private sector.

We invite landlords and agents aswell as students so they are an ideal opportunity to come along, check out what is available and hopefully view a number of rooms or houses in one day. You may even find the perfect housemate if you need to buddy up with someone else or form a group. The next round of Accommodation Fairs will be taking place in 2020.
