Falmouth Exeter Plus (FX Plus) is a NMH support provider for students of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter in Cornwall. We can provide in-person or remote support to these two universities only.

Interim Support

FX Plus would request that needs assessors recommend in their reports:

  • that all interim funding costs are reimbursed to FX Plus by Student Finance, on provision of an invoice and supporting documentation.
  • that student support continues with FX Plus provided the student is satisfied with the interim support they have received.

Further Information

Campus Accessibility

  • There are a limited number of portable hearing induction loops available to borrow and some lecture theatres are equipped with Infra-Red assisted listening systems. Students should contact Accessibility to discuss further. 
  • Lecture capture is available in some University of Exeter rooms and lecture theatres and some Falmouth University lectures are available to watch again on Teams video. However, this cannot be guaranteed.

Assistive technology

  • Microsoft Office 365 is available to all students; the ‘Office 365 Features’ webpage contains guidance on using O365’s accessibility features.
  • The ‘Productivity tools‘ page has information about free or low-cost apps and online tools which students can use to support their studies.

Alternative formats

  • Students of Falmouth University can convert files to alternative formats using the Blackboard Ally tool.
  • Students of the University of Exeter in Cornwall can convert files to alternative formats using the SensusAccess tool.

The Library

  • There are libraries on both Penryn and Falmouth campuses. 
  • The Campus Libraries webpage has detailed information about both sites, including accessibility features and a limited range of inclusive learning equipment which can be borrowed.  
  • Borrowing, renewing and requesting items: most standard items are borrowed for a week but automatically renew one week at a time unless requested by someone else. Students with Individual Learning Plans may be offered extra accommodations on a case-by-case basis. 
  • The Library has a large collection of ebooks, with guidance on how to access them

Accessibility

Reasonable adjustments and ILPs (Individual Learning Plans) 

  • The Accessibility team supports students with disabilities, health conditions or learning differences before and during their courses. This includes advice about DSA and the creation of ILPs containing reasonable adjustments on their courses.  

Study Hub

  • The Study Hub contains study guides to help students develop their study skills.  
  • Students can book a 1:1 appointment with a tutor or adviser using the online booking system

Wellbeing

  • The Student Support team provide advice, support and signposting to students with emotional, psychological and mental health difficulties. They also run stress and wellbeing workshops. 
  • Students can access Togetherall for free online wellbeing support. 
  • Students can also download the UniWellbeing app (iOS or Android) for tips and tools to improve their wellbeing. 

The Compass

The Compass is a student information service that offers help and advice on any aspect of university life (quick queries or signposting to specialist support). It is available online, in person and by phone, webchat and email.
