At the Penryn Campus
IT Services have been busy this summer preparing for the start of term; upgrading and expanding the majority of teaching suites at both campuses to ensure the best possible user experience.
The main open access suite and the training suite in The Exchange have been upgraded with additional RAM, graphics cards, solid state drives and larger monitors. Within the Design Centre an impressive new Mac suite has been set up and the PC Training Suite has been increased to 27 machines.
The Digital Games Studios have expanded to create three studios with an extra 90 computers. The Animation Studios have been enhanced with 15 computers replaced and an extra 10 new machines added.
The Photography Digital Suites and Scanning Suite have been serviced and rebuilt.
Both staff and students will now benefit from faster, more efficient macs, running the latest operating system and software versions. All the macs have received a full service from an Apple Authorised Warranty repair centre and any parts that needed replacing have been. They have also been cleaned out to help keep them cool and efficient.
Machine sleep times have been reduced and shutdown times implemented for 9.30pm every day, in order to reduce power consumption and reduce our carbon footprint.
At the Falmouth Campus
The open access IT and mac teaching suite have been relocated to a new space in Fox 3 (adjacent to the Fox Café). To support teaching and learning an additional 16 seat shared mac suite has been set up in Fox 1. The Interior Design Mac Suite has been relocated from Penryn and expanded by a further additional 5 machines. The Digital Media Mac Suite has been expanded with an additional machine and existing machines have been reimaged and deployed.
