The brand new, purpose built Sports Centre has opened its doors at the Penryn Campus, available to all with special membership packages for university students, staff and local community.

The new Penryn Campus Sports Centre boasts a four court sports hall which is available to hire for a variety of sports and events. On the first floor, The Flexsi fitness suite offers a brand new programme of classes in the large, versatile studio, to include Les Mills Body Combat and other popular classes for all abilities.  With around 90 stations, the spacious new gym is one of the largest in the area, featuring the latest in cardio, resistance and free weights equipment, from leading UK experts Pulse Fitness.

First visitors to the new centre on Monday 26 September were impressed with the facility. One customer said,  ‘It's a beautiful space, clean light and airy. The range of new equipment is amazing. All the staff are so friendly and supportive, they can’t do enough to help with any questions. This is a place for everyone – from those new to exercise who want to try the odd class to those dedicated to fitness and weight training.”

Simon Court, Head of Sport and Recreation at Falmouth Exeter Plus, said, “We’re excited to open the doors on this fantastic new facility for the Penryn Campus and the local area. Offering so much more than our former Fitness Centre – a larger gym, a broader range of classes and activities, expertise and advice on hand at all times from our team of fitness professionals, and a range of flexible membership options - we have something to suit all lifestyles and fitness goals.”

Amanda Chetwynd-Cowieson, FXU President for Student Experience, said, “The new sports centre is such a fantastic addition to the offer here for students. Not only is there everything from more classes to more members of staff to help, but having a sports hall on campus is of huge benefit to the FXU clubs meaning they can now train more often whilst also saving time and money on travel. I’m so excited to see how many more sporting events will be held in this new facility and highly encourage all students to go and have a look around!”

Interim Chief Executive Officer at Falmouth Exeter Plus, Tony Sanders added “I’m proud that we are able to provide this first-class Sports Centre to the students and staff on our growing campus and to the local community. The fitness suite is impressive with great views and the huge sports hall is likely to become an important space for campus events as well as for sporting activity. Congratulations to the team for the work that everyone has put into achieving this.”

Managed by Falmouth Exeter Plus, on behalf of The University of Exeter, Falmouth University and Falmouth and Exeter Students Union (FXU) - the purpose built Sports Centre has been constructed over the past nine months by Midas Construction Ltd.
