Our Glasney Rooms and Glasney Flats summer accommodation, delivered by Cornwall Plus, for visitors on the university campus in Penryn, has been selected as a finalist in the International Visitor Experience of the Year category of the 2017 Cornwall Tourism Awards.
Around a fifth of our visitors to Glasney Rooms and Glasney Flats come from overseas, as independent travellers, or part of organised groups and tour operators. For international travellers we work with specialist tour operators for the German and Dutch markets and our website www.cornwall-plus.co.uk is translated into a number of different languages including Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish and Swedish.
This is the first time that Cornwall Plus has been entered into the awards and we’re thrilled to have been nominated. We welcomed around 8,000 visitors during the height of last summer season. As a trading subsidiary of Falmouth Exeter Plus, Cornwall Plus re-invests all profits from the summer business into the campus for the benefit of students and staff. Our Penryn Campus enjoys a beautiful setting close to Falmouth and our guests love the central location as a base for exploring the local area.
Being shortlisted means a lot to us and we’re now looking forward to the awards night on 2 November. There were 180 entries from tourism businesses across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly this year. Judging is rigorous and includes a three-stage process that includes an application, mystery visits and a final decision by an independent panel.
The winners will be announced on 2 November at The Headland Hotel in Newquay. You can find out more about the awards at www.cornwalltourismawards.org.uk
