Four FX Plus Security team members have taken on management training – including an apprenticeship course.
Rob Greensmith, Head of Security, put the Security Team Management Development Programme in place because he recognised a way to increase skills and experience in his team. He explained: “This came about as a result of a vacancy for a Deputy Night Services Manager. I was aware that several Night Services Officers would be interested, but lacked some management experience and training.
“The programme has been well received and I hope that it shows a commitment to develop our staff and offer viable promotion opportunities.”
The four officers undertaking the programme are Gordon Olver, Cam Brown, Nick Richards and Anthony Shepherd. For them this means a four to five month secondment in the Deputy Night Services Manager post and a Level 3 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship, as well as mentoring from a more senior manager. They began their training in August with a Management Workshop (see photograph) which included an introduction to the management ethos of FX Plus, HR processes and their apprenticeships.
For Anthony this has already proven really useful. He said: “I believe the Management Development Programme is a brilliant idea for which I am grateful to be a part of. Within a few weeks of starting the programme an opportunity to be seconded as a manager in the cleaning department was offered to me, which I gladly took on. Helping manage the cleaning department during this busy time of the year has taught me a lot of valuable lessons and has enabled me to further my skill set and gain some priceless real-life managerial experience. I look forward to training towards my level 3 Leadership and Management qualification and bettering the service I can offer my team and department.”
Tony Sanders, FX Plus Managing Director, said: “We are keen to promote apprenticeships and other, work-related training and this ticks all the boxes. By organising this Rob is ensuring employee development which will benefit them as individuals as well as FX Plus and the service it offers the universities and students.”
