The Cornwall Plus team has achieved a Silver award in the Green Tourism Accreditation Scheme - on first application.
Green Tourism is a certification programme which offers trustworthy, independent guidance to tourism businesses wishing to operate sustainably. With over 2,100 members in the UK, Ireland, Canada and Italy, Green Tourism is the world’s largest and most established programme of its kind.
A Green Tourism Award (Bronze, Silver or Gold) means that a business works responsibly, ethically and sustainably, contributes to their community, is reducing their impact on the environment and aims to be accessible and inclusive to all visitors and staff.
Heather Fitzgerald, FX Plus Head of Campus and Commercial Events, said: “We are delighted to have received this Silver award on our first application and already have the Gold status in our sights. Working with Green Tourism, we expect to achieve this within the next 12 months.
“The real significance of this achievement is that our Silver status is based on all the hard work already being done across teams in all FX Plus Directorates. Team member Nicky Gorton had the unenviable task of pulling all the different sustainability initiatives together into one application.
“Sustainability was important within the sector before Covid-19, and as we emerge, it is as important as it ever was, if not more.”
To gain the Silver, Cornwall Plus was graded by a qualified assessor against a set of criteria covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and social involvement and communication.
Cornwall Plus organises and markets campus accommodation through the summer months. Profits made for holiday accommodation are reinvested in more campus improvements.
