Our Senior Executive Team (SET)

Reporting to the Falmouth Exeter Plus (FX Plus) Board,  FX Plus works to deliver shared Higher Education (HE) services and facilities for Falmouth University (Falmouth) and the University of Exeter (UoE) in Cornwall.

Our purpose is to help UoE and Falmouth achieve their global ambitions and to support them in providing their students with a life-changing university experience.

Our name reflects the strong link to our university partners. It also signifies the added value that we bring through the development and delivery of shared facilities and services for students and staff.

FX Plus is an exempt charity wholly owned by Falmouth and UoE on a 50:50 basis.

Each FX Plus directorate is headed by a member of the Senior Executive Team (SET).

Stuart Gaslonde

Stuart Gaslonde

Stuart joined FX Plus in August 2017. He has a blend of public and private sector experience with strong technical and business skills. His last position before coming to FX Plus was CIO (Chief Information Officer) at Cornwall Council.

Throughout his career the focus has always been on technology and digital services. He is passionate about how digital transformation can affect organisations and is committed to working across the Cornwall campuses to change the digital experience of Education and Research.

To achieve this Stuart is currently focused on leading the Directorate to bring about greater resilience and assurance across our technical environment and business systems, while providing proposals for digital transformations to support the ambitions of both Falmouth University and the University of Exeter.

Stuart grew up in Cornwall, attending schools and colleges in Newquay, and he now lives in Truro.

An Avid rugby supporter Stuart can often be found at Truro Rugby Club where he is an active member and has held numerous voluntary roles within the club including; Youth Chairman and Whole Club Chairman. He can be found every Friday and Sunday (during the season) helping out with coaching and refereeing the youth section

David Dickinson

David Dickinson

As Director of Student & Library Services, David heads up the Library & Archives, the Compass Helpdesks, Student Support, Multifaith Chaplaincy, Accessibility, Inclusive Learning, and ASK Academic Skills and Languages.

David joined FX Plus in June 2015, having worked student services leadership since 2002. He was previously Director of Student Experience at the University of Roehampton, and Director of Student Support at the University of Surrey before that. David was also Secretary and then Vice Chair of AMOSSHE, the Association for Heads of Student Services in HE between 2003 and 2010.

David has a first class Bachelors degree in Sociology (Surrey), a Masters Degree in Education Management (Open) and is accredited practitioner of the Insight and FIRO psychometric instruments.

Oliver Lane

Oliver Lane

Oliver’s background is in student accommodation services which he managed for eight years before joining us, in 2009, from the University of Greenwich. As Director of Residences and Facilities Oliver’s responsibilities encompass Accommodation Services, Facilities Management, The Sports Centre and Campus Safety and Security.

This also includes care of our beautiful grounds, transport and parking and the environment and sustainability remit.

Lee Hallam

Lee joined FX Plus in December 2019 after spending several years as the Commercial Director for the University of Plymouth where he led the turnaround of their commercial services company.

At FX Plus he is responsible for a range of Commercial functions from Catering, Bars, Retail and Events to overseeing the Procurement function. Lee is also responsible for leading Cornwall Plus the subsidiary company owned by FX Plus which is focused on generating external income.

Previously he had spent over 20 years in a range of Consumer Services businesses holding a range of Senior Management and Director roles in the Logistics, Financial Services and Technology Care sectors before moving into HE.

Having led Sales, Operations, Technology, Commercial and Marketing functions Lee specialises in developing clear consumer propositions supported by first class distribution and service channels and has led large scale change programmes in these areas both at a corporate and SME level.

Lee is an experienced coach and mentor, a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute

Rob Holmes

Rob Holmes

Rob was appointed Director of Finance in 2014, having been in the deputy post since 1998 and joining Falmouth University in 1992.  During that time he has been involved with finances across the institution from the early days of European funding and the acquisition of the Penryn Campus, the establishment of the joint venture, Falmouth Exeter Plus, the merger with Dartington and, most recently, in achieving University title.

He is responsible for all aspects of finance across Falmouth University, including procurement, and is heavily involved with financial planning. The importance of working with staff across the institution to de-mystify finances is at the forefront of Rob’s approach to finance, supported by tight controls and rigorous financial management and analysis.

Before working at the University, Rob ran the small business unit for a regional accountancy practice having trained both in practice and commerce; his first finance job being with the regional bus company. Rob is a Chartered Certified Accountant and a member of the Chartered Management Institute. He regularly engages with continuing professional development and encourages his team to invest in their own learning. He successfully completed the General Management Programme with Cranfield University in 2013.
