Database Administrator

As a member of the Business Applications and Integration team, the Database Administrator will work across all areas of the IT and Digital Directorate in support of the Directorate improvement plan. Ensuring that business application databases are created and maintained to the highest standards and that all databases are optimised and secured effectively. 

What does this role involve?

You will have the technical authority to establish and ensure adherence to architectural principles of database design.  In addition, you will provide guidance on business intelligence and management information reporting to the IT and Digital Directorate and the wider organisation.

As an excellent communicator you will build and maintain strong customer relationships with application owners and technology leads to provide specialist advice on the use of database technologies.

What can I bring to the role?

You will be an experienced and enthusiastic IT professional with significant experience of managing and performance tuning Microsoft SQL Server databases (SQL 2008 R2 – SQL 2016) to ensure optimal operation of business systems.  This includes designing and implementing secure and reliable database architectures including failover clustering and high availability.

You will need existing knowledge of the ITIL V3 Framework, with specialist knowledge of database concepts, object and data modelling and design principles.

Your technical acumen will be complemented by your strong written, verbal and listening skills and your ability to plan and prioritise workload. You will display meticulous attention to detail and be comfortable working in a time pressured and deadline driven environment.
